WGTS 91.9 Listeners Give Toys for Kids in the Washington D.C. Area

This year in Washington D.C. there were 13,000 kids who probably wouldn’t have gotten anything for Chrismas. Their parents signed up with the Salvation Army to get some assistance. The Salvation Army’s goal was to provide toys and gifts for those children, and they enlisted WGTS 91.9 to help.

WGTS 91.9 held a live remote with Johnny and Stacey from the afternoon show to invite people to Potomac Mills Mall to buy and bring toys for the Salvation Army Angel Tree kids. Listeners brought hundreds of toys and many also selected gift tags off of the Angel Tree to shop for a specific child’s wish list.

Normally Washington Capitals Hockey fans or Washington Wizards Basketball fans pack themselves into Capital One Arena in downtown Washington D.C., but on a recent night, it was Christian music fans filling up every seat of the arena. Over 13,500 WGTS listeners sang along with every song on the Unity Tour featuring Hillsong Worship, Casting Crowns and Elevation Worship.

“I've been to many sporting events in D.C., but to see all of Capital One Arena filled with people praising Jesus was something that still gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. It was an incredible night to be a part of,” said WGTS Midday Show Host Becky Alignay.

Bible or Not? Program Brings Bible to Families

About the time listeners are picking up children from school or heading home from a long workday, many people play the game “Bible or Not” with WGTS' afternoon hosts Johnny and Stacey Stone.

It’s simple enough. Johnny gives three phrases and the participant (along with their family members in the car) can guess if the phrase is from the Bible or from another source, like a quote from a famous person. Stacey or another host can help you with a “lifeline” if you’re not sure, which always makes it exciting. Get all three correct, and you win!

WGTS listeners just finished celebrating Socktober. Socktober was created after team members at the station talked with the Salvation Army and Central Union Mission and found out one of the biggest needs in the homeless community is warm socks, especially as colder weather sets in.

WGTS 91.9 Sells Out Chris Tomlin Concert

More than 3,400 WGTS listeners turned out for “An Evening of Worship” with Chris Tomlin at Hylton Memorial Chapel in Woodbridge, Va.

“It seems like every Chris Tomlin show is more like a huge worship service,” said WGTS Morning Show Host and Promotions Director Jerry Woods. “For the majority of the show people were on their feet, many with their hands in the air, singing along with every song. It’s was a moving night.”
